This morning, Blue Practice had the pleasure of taking part in Clean Edge’s Clean Energy Trends 2010 media teleconference. We’ve been working with the team at Clean Edge, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Ron Pernick, and Senior Editor, Clint Wilder, to prepare for today’s release of this annual report, which is now available for download here. It was a great call, and we’ve already seen some coverage by The Green Skeptic, Scott Edward Anderson; Spiegel Online’s Stefan Schultz; John Addison at Clean Fleet Report; and Grist’s David Roberts. Thanks to all of the reporters who took time out of their mornings to participate in the teleconference.

The report, in its ninth year, looks at growth projections for the major clean-energy sectors (solar, wind, and biofuels) and includes data on global jobs and investments in clean technology. And, perhaps most exciting, especially for those of us who wish we had a crystal ball to see what the clean energy future looks like – and what self respecting clean tech geek doesn’t? – are the five clean-energy trends that Ron and Clint describe in the report:

  • Carbon is becoming, not just a waste stream, but a feedstock
  • Steep PV price declines are redefining the solar industry
  • High-speed rail is moving ahead
  • Biomass is increasingly firing up utilities and district energy
  • Clean-tech megaprojects continue to advance

The report includes details on each trend, and profiles on the companies that are leading in those areas. Other highlights include an IPO watch list, for those of you who are hankering to celebrate the opening of the IPO window and want to know which companies are most likely to make it happen.
