The challenge
Nanoholdings was pioneering breakthrough nanotechnology with the potential to solve global energy and water challenges. But the company's impact was largely hidden, tied up in scientific collaborations, early-stage IP, and university labs. They needed a way to make their story, and their mission, resonate far beyond academia. Something public, inspiring, and clear.
The strategy
Working with Nanoholdings founder Justin Hall-Tipping, we shaped a bold public narrative that could speak to both head and heart. We secured a spot on the TED stage, positioning Justin not as a technologist, but as a visionary guide into a new era of energy and material science.
Working closely with TED's editorial team, we helped shape and refine what became a widely viewed talk: a blend of personal insight, scientific potential, and global urgency. We also produced a follow-up video for the company's website to extend the story beyond the stage.
The outcome
- The TED Talk drew over 1.2 million views on TED.com and 171,000+ on YouTube
- Described by TED as a "moving talk," it continues to circulate as an inspiration in breakthrough innovation
- Attracted $20M+ in follow-on investment, advancing the company's work across nanotech and university-driven R&D
- Elevated Nanoholdings from an incubator to a public-facing innovation brand, with a story that captured imagination and investor interest alike
